Stirring the senses

Prémisse tells of the violence of silence, the confines of madness, intimate choices and the vital process of healing following trauma. At its centre is Kali – an alter ego of choreographer-dancer Thi-Mai Nguyen – named after the Hindu goddess of destruction, transformation and preservation.
More than a narrative, Prémisse deals with the inner battle between life and death, traced by a blood-red thread that stirs the senses to their core.

Thi-Mai Nguyen is an instinctive dancer with a magnetic presence, driven by the need to express what disturbs or moves her. In May 2021, she shared Prémisse with a limited audience due to Covid restrictions. Revived at the D Festival du Marni in 2022, this powerful solo remains an uncompromising, instinctive quest for meaning – waiting to be discovered.

“My character tries to understand not only what has happened to him, but also the choice between good and evil within himself. When faced with someone who hurts us, in addition to negative feelings, there is also a degree of empathy.”

Thi-Mai Nguyen

“J’aime bien aller vers les choses un peu extrêmes, déroutantes à jouer ; aller loin dans mes sujets sans les prendre froidement. Je fonctionne par compréhension du corps et de l’âme.”
