David, faux dur agressif et vrai hypersensible, parle vite avec un fort accent écossais. Eddie n’a pas de jambes, parle moins et fait comme il peut. À Cromer, sur la côte du Norfolk, ils tentent tant bien que mal de vivre. Il est question de conformité, des faux-semblants, et de la façon dont la société évalue les gens. Avec (très) peu de mots et beaucoup de mouvements, à mi-chemin entre la chronique sociale et la chorégraphie filmée, Lloyd Newson, directeur artistique du mythique DV8 Physical Theatre, signait en 2004 ce film court qui allait vite devenir grand tant il allait marquer profondément celles et ceux qui l’ont découvert depuis. Le film, éblouissant, est lauréat d’une vingtaine de prix internationaux.

Compagnie essentielle à l’histoire de la Nouvelle Danse au Royaume-Uni, le DV8 Physical Theatre aujourd’hui disparu s’inscrit dans un courant artistique inclassable, où la chorégraphie s’associait à la parole pour un art politiquement et socialement engagé.
