(The performing arts and their search for new production models)

The performing arts, which traditionally bring spectators together to share a living experience, have been seriously affected by the outbreak of the pandemic. It is now clear that this crisis will have a huge impact on the distribution of resources and employment in the sector.

We are trying - in extremis - to counteract this impact by still scheduling the cancelled performances. And if necessary, we will continue to do so. However, rescheduling cancelled shows will not suffice. Like all other sectors of society, the arts must reinvent itself. Radical measures are called for in terms of production and distribution models.

It is around this challenge that Karel Vanhaesebrouck, director of the Master's programme in Live Performing Arts at ULB, brings together four guest speakers for an in-depth reflection on a new future for the arts:

• Isabelle Ferreras, sociologist at the FNRS and the universities of Louvain-la-Neuve and Harvard,

• Nathanaël Harcq, director of the Conservatory of Liège and responsible for training actors in the same institution,
• David Irle, who, as part of his AladirConseil project, is working on a better understanding of the impact of global warming on culture.
